Lexington VA: 22 Nov >67 My dear Miss Norwell I have just recd your kind note of the 19th & wish it was in my power to accept your fathers & mothers invitation to stay with them, but cannot anticipate that pleasure, though I hope to see as much of them & of you as I can. I shall have a great deal to do while in Richmond & in addition have recd a subpoena from the U. S. District Court in Richmond to appear before it as a witness in the case of Mr Davis, I think it will therefore be better for me to go to the Exchange. Thank therefore your father & mother for me (page 2 ) & tell them how gratified I feel at the thought of seeing them. I will deliver their kind message to Custis as soon as I can see him. Please retain for me the package from Canfield. Give my love to Mildred & tell her when she feels a desire to see Baxter to look at you. I think she will be more than compensated. With my fondest regards to all your household I am most truly yours R E Lee Miss M. Norwell Caskie
