Washington College Va. Sept 9, 1870. Gen. Albert Pike, Dear Sir, Yrs. of the 5th inst., enclosing a check for $200.00, was received this morning. The money has been deposited with the Treasurer of the College and will be appropriated towards paying your son’s expenses. The amount sent will be sufficient to pay your son’s college fees for the entire session and several months’ board. Your son has conducted himself well and I see by examining his record that he has done respectably in his studies. It will afford me pleasure to do anything in my power to facilitate your son in the prosecution of his education. Allow me to thank you for your expression of kindness and to assure you that it would give me great pleasure to see you. Very Truly, R E Lee
