Battle Field [Chancellorsville] May 7th [1863] Dear Sister: We have met and repulsed in great confusion the Yankee army near Chancellersville. Our loss is severe. Gen. Jones killed, Gen. Paxton wounded and many other gallant officers. I was struck by a spent ball which stunned my arm for some time, but has gotten over it. Elihu acted well and was unhurt. The Yankees have fallen back to Wilderness Run where they are fortifying. We may have another battle, indeed it is highly possible. Lieut. Jones is slightly wounded. Paxton, Ramsey, Miley, Sam Johnson slightly wounded. Casualties in brigade quite severe. Col. Randolph killed. Maj. ______ killed, Your bro A.T.B.
