| dc.description.abstract | The low socioeconomic status and means of intimidation experienced by female victims of domestic violence causes these women not to receive adequate attention and prosecution by police, lawyers, and judges. The failures of the legal system to properly punish perpetrators of domestic violence gives batterers more incentive to intimidate their partners into not cooperating with the legal process, leading to suboptimal outcomes for victims of domestic violence and the perpetuation of the cycle of violence.
