This picture is a portrait of an unidentified man and woman. The original inventory indicates that this is "Buster Brown." It seems possible that these people are dressed as the comic strip characters, Buster Brown and Mary Jane. The comic strip began in 1902 and the Brown Shoe Company began using the characters as "mascots" around 1904. This print was made from the original glass plate negative, which is housed at Virginia Historical Society.en_US
