Barkley was a lawyer and politician (Democrat) from Kentucky who served in both houses of Congress and as the 35th Vice President of the United States from 1949 to 1953. Barkley died suddenly during this, his keynote speech for the 1956 Mock Democratic Convention. This speech is introduced by comments from John K. Jennings.
