This is essentially a program for the 1972 Mock Convention, with ads and articles and photographs. Page 1 is the front cover with a stylized version of the flag superimposed over a random montage of faces. The text reads: "1972 Mock Convention Journal." Page 2 is a full-page color ad for Georgia tourism. Page 3 is a full-age ad for Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc. (Houston TX). Page 4 is a full-page ad for Gamble-Skogmo, Inc. (Minneapolis MN). Page 5 (labeled page 3) includes the table of contents, the publication statement (including the editor and staff of the publication), and the officers of the Mock Convention. There is also a cartoon of the floor of the convention, and a statement giving credit for the cartoon and the cover design to "Mrs. Carol Block, wife of law student William K. Block, Jr." Page 6 (labeled page 4) is entitled, "Notes and Commentary," and includes a piece "From the Office of the President, Washington and Lee University" (Robert E. R. Huntley), accompanied by a picture of Huntley. There is also a piece "From the Co-Chairmen of the 1972 Mock Convention" (Michael Campilongo and Thomas Gillespie), accompanied by a picture of the co-chairmen. Another piece, "From the Editor" (Robert M. Turnbull), begins on this page and is continued on the next page. Page 7 (labeled page 5) includes the second half of the article, "From the Editor" (Robert M. Turnbull), accompanied by a picture of Turnbull. There is also a half-page ad for National City Bank (Minneapolis MN). Page 20 (labeled page 18) seems to be an ad (it's not listed in the Table of Contents) for Wilbur Mills for President: "The Arkansas Delegation of the 1972 Mock Convention strongly supports Wilbur Mills for President." The members of that delegation are also listed. Page 21 (labeled page 19) includes an article entitled, "1972 Convention To Be Held In New Gymnasium" by Benjamin G. Philpott with a photo of Facilities Chairman Lewis Hannah. There are also two ads: Home State Bank (Kansas City KS) and Aston Realty & Insurance Agency (Baltimore MD). Page 22 (labeled page 20) is the schedule for the Mock Convention for Friday, May 5, 1972, beginning with the parade at noon. Page 23 (labeled page 21) is the schedule for the Mock Convention for Saturday, May 6, 1972. The cartoon from page 5 by Mrs. Carol Block is repeated here. Page 24 (labeled page 22) contains three ads. The Richmond Times-Dispatch and The Richmond News Leader are combined in one ad. McCrum's Drug Store and Leggett, both in Lexington VA, split the rest of the page. Page 25 (labeled page 23) is the article, "Traditional Parade Scheduled For Noon On Friday, May 5." There are several photos including one of the members of the Parade Committee (John Folsom, Bill Wallace, Chairman Bill Andrews, and Bliss Hicky). The other pictures are the Florida float from 1948, the Kentucky float from 1956, a riverboat float from 1964, the Virginia float from 1956, and the Alabama float from 1968. Page 26 (labeled page 24) features three ads. There is a half-page ad for Richard Foundry Corporation (Norfolk VA) and a quarter-page ad for Architectural Hardware Company (Wilmington DE). There is also a quarter-page ad compliments of the Frederick County, Virginia Democratic Committee. Page 27 is a full-page ad for Ethyl Corporation (Richmond VA). Page 28 (labeled page 26) is the first of four pages allotted to the article, "History of the Mock Convention: Student Enthusiasm And Political Realism Key To Past Successes" by Benjamin J. Philpott. In an Editor's Note at the beginning of the article, Mr. Rupert N. Latture (Professor of Politics, Emeritus) and Mr. Jack D. Horowitz (a member of the 1968 Convention staff) are thanked for their contributions to the article. Photos include one of Mr. Latture and two photos of previous conventions. Page 29 (labeled page 27) is the second of four pages that continue the article, "History of the Mock Convention: Student Enthusiasm And Political Realism Key To Past Successes" by Benjamin J. Page 39 (labeled page 37) includes the article, "Preparations Made For Complete Press Coverage," accompanied by a photograph of Convention Press Secretary Bryan Hatchett. There are also two quarter-page ads: Winchester Democratic Committee (Winchester VA) and Heritage House Inn and Restaurant (Lexington VA). Page 40 (labeled page 38) allots half the page to thank "our Patrons and other contributors" and includes a list of the Patrons. There are two quarter-page ads: Lexington Hardware Co. and East Lexington Grocery -- both in Lexington VA. Page 41 is a full-page ad in which "The Florida Delegation thanks its patrons and contributors for their support and includes a promotion for Fresh Florida Oranges. Page 42 (labeled page 40) includes three ads: Alvin Dennis and Campus Corner, Inc. -- both in Lexington VA -- and an ad "Compliments of Republican Alumnus of 1930." Page 43 (the inside back cover) is a full-page, color image of the Colonnade, "Paid for by the Executive Committee of the student body." Page 44 (the back cover) is a full-page, color ad promoting tourism in the Middle South (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Southeast Missouri), sponsored by Middle South Utilities.
