dc.descriptionThese pictures are portraits of Martin P. Burks. In Pose 1 from 1904, he is wearing a suit and tie. In Pose 2 from 1907, he is wearing full academic regalia. These prints were made from the original glass plate negatives, which are housed at Virginia Historical Society.en_US
dc.descriptionMartin P. Burks attended Washington and Lee and later became Dean of the Law School. The Burks Moot Court Competition, the Burks Scholar program and the Burks Senate of the Delta Theta Pi law fraternity are named after Burks. Burks also served on the Supreme Court of Appeals and wrote several books including Pleading and practice in actions at common law (http://annie.wlu.edu/record=b1281375).en_US
