Freier replies to Gaines to thank him for explaining circumstances surrounding the blocking of press coverage immediately following the sudden death of Senator Alben Barkley during his keynote speech at the 1956 Mock Convention. Freier criticizes the actions of the students and paints the results as "visual news suppression." This letter was copied to Frank Parsons, Director of Publicity at Washington and Lee University, and James H. Moore, Executive Vice-President of Shenandoah Life Stations, Inc.
