    Description
These photographs were taken by Andrea Mason Owen during July 2014 in Xining, Qinghai, China. The program was an internship.

These photographs were part of the Study Abroad Photo Exhibit on October 14, 2014.

Andrea Mason Owen is a member of the class of 2016 of Washington and Lee University.

Student statement about their experience: "Over the summer, I had the incredible opportunity to study business, Corporate Social Responsibility, and language in Xining, China - a city saturated with rich religious and cultural significance. I interned with Greenhouse Coffee, a company that owns and franchises coffee shops in cities around China. Greenhouse employs the deaf and disabled community, uses coffee from ethical sources, and practices other socially-responsible behaviors. Because Xining has a concentrated Muslim population, I was able to witness remarkable prayers during Ramadan. I was also able to visit Tibetan villages (technically outside the Tibetan border), where I toured important Buddhist temples."
