These photographs were taken by Ellen Anka Wiencek during the 2013-2014 academic year. The program took place at Hertford College, Oxford. These photographs were part of the Study Abroad Photo Exhibit on October 14, 2014. Ellen Anka Wiencek is a member of the class of 2015 of Washington and Lee University. Student statement about their experience: "My year abroad was an incredible experience of personal and intellectual growth. I had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, expanding my conception of what it means to live in a global society. Studying in beautiful libraries that are hundreds of years old every day, with others who are just as excited about their subject as I am, was liberating, and it renewed my intellectual curiosity and desire to learn from others. I would strongly recommend studying abroad to everyone--there's nothing else like it!
Highlights include:
A weeklong ski trip in the French Alps, a centuries-old Oxford and Cambridge tradition.
A five week trip around Europe, where I visited Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Austria, and the Czech Republic.
Rowing for Hertford College's Women's First Boat in the annual Summer Eights race on the Thames in Oxford.
Speakers at the Oxford Union, including Hamid Karzai, Paul Wolfowitz, John Nash, Jerry Springer, Richard Dawkins, and Jesse Jackson.
Attendance at a couple Oxford Balls--think Fancy Dress, but with unlimited food and drinks, carnival games, and a ferris wheel!"
