Emily E.Tichenor is a member of the Class of 2016 of Washington and Lee University School of Law. Capstone; [FULL-TEXT RESTRICTED TO WASHINGTON AND LEE UNIVERSITY LOGIN] This paper discusses why legalizing prostitution is not the best approach to protecting prostitutes, specifically the poorest ones who enter prostitution only when faced with no other options. Decriminalization of selling sex is a better solution to helping prostitutes escape poverty and preventing structural inequalities.
