There are very brief mathematics notations on the reverse of this form letter issued by the Lick Branch Mine Relief Committee. The letter describes two explosions at the mine which resulted in the deaths of 117 miners. The Committee seeks to raise and administer funds to assist the dependents of those who died. The Committee members are listed. The return envelope is addressed to the Treasurer, R. E. Bolling, an employee of the Flat Top National Bank in Bluefield, W. VA. There is no date on this item. This item, along with many others, was inserted into the ledger book journal used by the Nelson family. Inserted items included math problems and solutions, genealogy notes and diagrams, and correspondence.
