This work is a detailed examination of the development of the partition function and the corresponding equation of state due to Paul J. Flory. After the partition function and equation of state are developed, the equation of state will then be tested for agreement with experimental data. To provide an easier deciphering, notation used in this paper shall imitate, as close as closely as possible, Flory's notation. Comparisons to other developments of either partition functions or equations of state such as Prigogine or Simha's shall be to elucidate Flory's concepts or equations. In accomplishing the above, this paper will also provide future students with a comprehensive overview of the theory and mathematics involved with modeling of chain molecule liquids.
