Lee responds to a letter from Cabell pertaining to the imprisonment of John McCue. McCue had been sentenced to life in prison for spying for the Confederacy. He was a member of Confederate Colonel John S. Mosby's Rangers. McCue was ultimately pardoned by Ulysses S. Grant.
