    Description
Various students of Spain's Golden Age drama have remarked Tirso de Molina's keen insight into feminine character, and some have mentioned his successful handling of women personages in his drama, but apparently none has studied the role of the dominant female. It is rarely, if ever, possible to prove a negative, but search of standard bibliographies has revealed no essay on the subject. The present paper is an attempt to fill, to some extent, the existing lacuna. [From Preface]
